Erik Wingquist - Teaching

KTH (2001–)

I began teaching at KTH in 2001 as a teaching assistant in A+URL and have since held multiple roles (with a few breaks). I have taught design studios in Years 1, 3, and 4–5, served as Year Director for Years 1 and 3, and supervised diploma projects in Years 4–5 together with Tor Lindstrand and Anders Wilhelmson. I have also led courses focused on representation and digital tools. From 2019 to 2022, I served as Head of Programme for the Architecture and Master’s programmes. I am currently working as a Studio teacher in Year 3.

A+URL (2001–2003) — Teacher / Guest Critic

A+URL was a Year 4–5 course led by Ana Betancourt and Peter Hasdell. I participated as teacher and guest critic. The course combined architectural inquiry with site-based experimentation and full-scale work. (Documentation includes a 1:1 installation produced in Barcelona.)

Year 1 (2003–2006) — Studio Teacher / Year Director

I taught in the first-year studio and served as Year Director, focusing on fundamentals of architectural thinking, making, and critique culture. Teaching emphasized iterative methods and collective learning formats. (Documentation includes a workshop where individual housing studies were recomposed

Years 3–4 (2009–2011) — Studio Teacher / Guest Critic
In Year 3, focused on urbanism and the Bachelor thesis, I taught as studio teacher under Alexis Pontvik. In parallel, I also taught and critiqued in Studio 2 (Year 4) together with Tor Lindstrand. (Documentation includes a critique session from the course House/Home.)

Studio 2: Haningeskolan (2012–2013) — Studio Teacher
For one academic year the studio was based in Haninge, working site-specifically in and around Handen Centrum under the name Haningeskolan. The work combined field presence, spatial prototyping, and local engagement. (Outcomes were exhibited at Haninge Konsthall.

Studio 2: Superfittja (2013–2014) — Studio Teacher
Studio 2 (Years 4–5), led by Anders Wilhelmson and Tor Lindstrand, was one of ten parallel design studios. I taught as studio teacher, contributing to research-driven methods and urban readings. (Documentation includes spreads from the book Superfittja, including a mapped segment of a guided walk.)

Year 3 (2015–2019) — Year Director

As Year Director for five years, I led Year 3 courses in urban design, landscape, and the Bachelor thesis. The curriculum shifted focus annually in relation to Stockholm’s transformations and planning debates, combining analytical work with speculative proposals. Head of Programme (2019–2022)

As Head of Programme I held overall responsibility for the Architecture programme (Years 1–5) and the Master’s programme. The role included long-term curriculum development, international exchange, student representation, equality and inclusion work (JML), and strategic development of the programme’s direction and capacity.

Representation (2019–2022) — Course Lead

I developed and taught a course focused on urban representation and mapping across scales. The course introduced tools and methods for studying, structuring, and transforming information about urban processes, patterns, and multi-dimensional systems—bridging analytical mapping with design-driven interpretation.

Lectures / Critique / Panels (since 2001)

Alongside teaching, I have lectured, served as guest critic, and moderated panel discussions in Sweden and internationally, including engagements in Vienna, Berlin, Cottbus, Catania, Mendrisio, Graz, Venice, Rotterdam, Ordos, Beijing, and Warsaw.
