Public art by Love and Devotion (Ingrid Eriksson, Carina Gunnars, Karin Johnson, Anna Kindgren)
Location: OP skolan- Örebro
Team: Anders Johansson, Erik Wingquist
In 2006, the artist group Love and Devotion (Eriksson, Gunnars, Johnson, and Kindgren) transformed the Olaus Petri schoolyard in Örebro into a landmark of "New Genre" public art. Rather than providing traditional ornamentation, the artists treated the yard as a social situation, engaging in a deep dialogue with students, teachers, and residents to redefine what a schoolyard could be.
Produced in collaboration with Statens konstråd, Örebro Municipality and Testbedstudio, the project utilized a playful economy to maximize a limited budget. Key features included large wooden decks for gathering, a boulevard with a boule court that replaced high fences to invite the local community in, and a "mini art gallery"a concrete cube embedded in a hill of recycled soil that functions as both an exhibition space and a stage.
